The European National Institutes of Culture (EUNIC, Montreal cluster: Goethe-Institut, Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Consulat Général de France, Spanish general consulate, Austrian Cultural Forum in Ottawa), in partnership with Pointe-à-Caillière, cité d’archéologie et d’histoire, is organizing, on November 26th 2018, in the context of the European year of cultural heritage, a day of conferences and round table on the topic of the challenges in the conservation and preservation of archaeological heritage.

The methods and approaches for conservation, as well as the contexts in which they are applied, have never been as diverse and sophisticated as they currently are. Several people are working toward elaborating solutions to mitigate the considerable threats toward a circumscribed and fragile heritage. In this perspective, experts will come together to discuss and contemplate a future for the protection of the past and its teachings, and to share their respective projects and prospects.

Different challenges, methods, and contexts will be discussed by panelists and presenters from five different European countries and from Canada. Digital conservation, climatic change, in situ conservation of heritage cities are among the themes of this conference.

The keynote address will be given by Prof. Massimo Osanna, general director of Pompei archaeological park. Six more presentations on themes listed above will follow. The day will conclude with a roundtable bringing together all presenters.
